My name is Kalle Wanner, I am a post graduate student from Germany, and currently I am doing an MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance at Cass Business School, London.
So far I have had a little less than one year of work experience doing different internships in ship management, ship operations, and S&P ship broking. Having grown up in a coastal area in northern Germany, maritime businesses have always been part of my everyday life. Participating actively in water sports, I got a strong relation to the marine environment which, among other reasons, enhanced my decision to study a degree called Shipping & Chartering B.A. in Bremen, Germany.
This degree has equipped me with a lot of knowledge in shipping, and also allowed me to do project based research in many different maritime related fields.
The motivation to do the MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance at Cass however was driven by different motives. The global downturn in the shipping industry during the recent financial crisis has inspired me to broaden my horizon in financial matters. In this respect I found that the MSc Shipping, Trade and Finance at Cass would suit my needs best. My decision to study at Cass was also assured by its excellent reputation within the industry and the fact that it is located in London, one of the world’s financial hubs. Additionally, the ability to study with people from literally all over the world has awakened my desire to study at Cass.
To date I am very much undecided where my career will lead me to. Yet I do know that I want to make a difference by contributing every day the best wherever I can. This could be reached through the choices in everyday life or at work, however it is important that one considers that every choice can mean a difference in this world.
If I could ask Stelios one question, I would like to know whether there have been moments when he had to throw his ideals overboard in order to enable his business to be successful.
