My name is Adella and I am currently at LSE starting my 3rd year in BSc Management.
Living in England my whole life has meant that I have had little exposure to my Iranian heritage, although my father has had great influence on life. Despite being born and raised in Iran, my father always had his education and career in the forefront of his mind and so bravely moved his whole life to England at the age of 16 to further his education. I have most certainly inherited this dedication to maximising education and it has been the driving force behind my academic success to date.
Through LSE I had a strong ambition to build upon my mix of personal and academic skills, and ultimately obtain the high standard of education that would enable me to contribute to continuity of LSE heritage and lay solid foundations for a future career. Furthermore, due to LSE’s global outlook and cosmopolitan character, I felt studying at the school would further my desire to work internationally, allowing my international knowledge and awareness to develop and grow, aspects that were, and remain, extremely important to me. Hence LSE has always been the university that I have aspired to go to and thanks to Stelios I have been able to fulfil this aspiration.
Although there is still great uncertainty about the direction my future career will take I am sure of one thing, I want a job that I enjoy, with something more than money motivating me to get out of bed in the morning. Beyond completion of my education, my main aim would be to carry out marketing, advertising and sales on an international level, exploiting the skills that I hope to have developed throughout my time studying management at LSE, from accounting and finance to human resource management and psychology.
For me, charity and volunteer work are very important, in terms of giving back to society though using the skills and resources that I have gained through my education to benefit others. I am involved in a number of volunteer projects, such as the LSE Mentoring Programme, where I work with pupils who have been identified as having the potential to do well, but, for a variety of reasons are not fulfilling that potential. This programme also aims to raise the awareness of higher education possibilities, hence using my university experience to encourage and inspire children to consider embarking on a university education. Furthermore, I am a member of the LSE FoodWorks Society, which aims to use surplus food, for example from supermarkets, and free kitchen space to create nutritious meals for people affected by poverty. I hope to continue this volunteer work throughout my life, using my skills and experience to help others wherever possible.
