My name is Ameena and I am from Bangladesh. I graduated 2009 from LSE with BSc in Economics.
I arrived in London aged one year old from Bangladesh and have lived in London ever since.
I chose to study Economics as it is a respected subject that is also broad- in that it leaves the door wide open to many different professions. I chose to study at the LSE as it is the best place in the country (and the world) for studying Economics.
I wanted to be a Civil Servant at first, but now I am not so sure. The current economic crisis is really not helping! I have almost always wanted to work in the public sector, now even more than before.
The way I feel we could ‘give back’ and try to make the world a better place is by taking care of those around us, including our local community, and of course, the environment. Volunteering is one way to give back to the community, particularly by participating in projects involving youths and children. Of course, sponsoring students is another terrific way to give back! It would mean bright but financially disadvantaged students get the chance to fulfil their dreams and complete university education. More (bright) graduates are great for the (world) economy too.
I am incredibly grateful to Stelios and honoured to be a part of a community of scholars. I look forward to meeting a lot more Stelios scholars in the future, and working together with them as well.
I would ask Stelios if he could not become an entrepreneur, what profession would he have chosen?
Stelios should ask me if I could only choose between being a respected academic and being one of the richest people in the world, which would I choose?
