My name is Gaurang and I was born in India. I am currently studying BSc Maths and Economics at LSE. I was born in India and my family moved to this country when I was 4 years old in order to grab better opportunities. Motivated by my father, who became an orphan at the age of 12 and worked his way up through hard work and perseverance.
I have been interested in Maths from a young age and now my interests have also sprung into Economics. Interested in investment banking and managed to gain a 5 week work experience with Lehman Brothers after A-Levels.
As LSE is highly regarded as one of the best universities in the world for Economics, I felt it would be inspiring to study at a place where world-class individuals have already studied. Furthermore, it’s interesting to learn more about different cultures and different ways of life that people follow from the large international LSE student body.
Like Stelios, I would look to provide funding for other LSE students as well as disabled children. I also understand by my father’s experience how important educational support is for orphans and other poor students, so I would be looking to also provide less fortunate students some assistance as I believe that this will inspire and motivate them to work harder.
Furthermore, I would like to share with others in public lectures of my experiences and hopefully motivate others to work hard because I think it’s motivating if you have a role model.
I never expected that as a scholar, I would be part of a whole new community. I think that the Stelios Scholarship team did a brilliant job of creating this community. Also, it’s really inspiring to see how brilliant fellow scholars are and it makes you want to achieve things you’ve never thought about.
I would like to ask Stelios what is the most important lesson that he has learnt in his life.
