BSc Accounting & Finance Graduated LSE 2008

My name is Alexandros and I am Greek.  I graduated from LSE in 2008 with a BSc in Accounting and Finance.

Going back to my life, while I was still in high school, I can remember my interest in mathematics and business. This was the reason that I wanted to study Accounting and Finance, which I considered a very practical and interested course. Throughout my time at LSE, I gained valuable experience both professionally and from my extra-curricular activities. One of my greatest achievements was being president of the LSE Hellenic Society during my second year, which enhanced my belief in team work. As far as my professionally experience is concerned, I had the opportunity to work for one of the greatest multinational companies with base in Greece and gained an insight in the work environment of a corporate financial department. Since I graduated from LSE, I continued further my studies, completing my masters’ degree in Investment and Quantitative Finance.

From a very young age, I was really interested in numbers and thus I was bewitched from Accounting even during my years in high school. At the beginning, my perspective on Accounting was more similar to a puzzle, in which someone is trying to include all elements to compose final results. Later, I had a more scientific view of this course, which is, in my opinion, the core for all companies.

My career aspirations are of course related to my studies as I would like to pursue a career in business consulting. However, if I was asked to complete the phrase ‘I want to be…’, the answer would be just one word, Stelios!

Part of the reason that I have Stelios as my role model, is not only for his entrepreneurial spirit but also due to the fact that he is giving back to society, by inducing education to all students and being an ambassador of ethics between the new generation of entrepreneurs. As a result, it would be a great wish for me to be in a similar position in the future, in which I could do the same for the young people, since by advising and protecting the new generations is a guarantee for continuous growth and achievements in the future, that could make the world a better place to live.

I would like to ask Stelios, what was the crucial moment that he decided to refuse the ‘easy’ path of continuing his career in the family business and instead choosing the ‘difficult’ path of starting his own business?

Finally, I would like Stelios to ask me, which new easy business would I like as a consumer to be operating in London?
