My name is Demetra and I am Cypriot.  I graduated from LSE in 2009 with a BSc in Accounting and Finance.

When I first applied at LSE, I knew that the university was one of the top worldwide. Hence, no matter what I wanted to do in the future, I knew that the experience and knowledge I would gain from studying there would be helpful. Since I want to be a chartered accountant, professionally, my three years at LSE are useful.  During my three years of study I have had the honour to meet and be lectured by excellent lecturers whose books I have been studying in the meantime.  Studying in such a university made me more qualified and organized and hence I feel more confident and competent to face the future.

Accounting was one of my favourite subjects since secondary school. I really enjoyed studying it and I decided that I wanted to get involved with this subject in depth.  My aspirations are to become a charted accountant.

Being a charted accountant can minimize the fraudulent behaviour on behalf of companies so as to give the various stakeholders a fairer view of the companies audited.

Also, by offering consulting services to firms, I will be able to help firms achieve their short- and long-run strategic planning. In this way, I will be able, perhaps to help the economy of my country.

I would like to ask Stelios how he has managed to build his “empire” so fast? What is the secret that keeps him on the top?

There are still families, like mine, that need some financial support in order to educate their children. When I got the letter with the scholarship three years ago, I felt really worthy and that someone believed in me!  I think he still does not know the impact his scholarships have on our lives!
