Graduated LSE 2008 BSc EconomicsMahesh graduated from LSE in 2008 after completing a BSc in Economics. My parents, originally from India, came to the UK with relatively little, and yet managed to provide me and my sisters with everything that we asked for. Working hard and striving for excellence is the best way for me to thank my parents for the privileged situation that I am in, and this has been my motivation in life. My interest in reading Economics at the LSE stemmed from a particularly inspirational teacher at secondary school. It was here that I witnessed Economics at work in the world around me. Since then, pursuing any other subject became a non-question. And it is exactly this greater understanding that I obtained at the LSE. With my Bachelors degree from the LSE, and my forthcoming Masters degree from City University London, I hope to take up a position within an institution to make a positive impact within society. I also hope to one day be in a position to repay Stelios’s investment in my future through my own philanthropic efforts. In accordance with the spirit of the scholarship, I used my spare time at the LSE to make a difference in my own little way. I am particularly proud of my time as a classroom assistant teaching French at an inner city school. This scheme was not only incredibly rewarding, but equally beneficial in developing my linguistic abilities. Having witnessed firsthand the effect of philanthropy from both sides, I hope for this to form an integral part of my life going forward. I have no doubt that being a Scholar at the LSE opened countless doors that would have otherwise been closed to me. The scholarship has enabled me to experience university life to the full, and as such I must commend Stelios and unreservedly encourage all potential donors. |
