I come from a small city in Northern Ireland where I live with my mum, two brothers and my sister. My hobbies include playing the piano where I achieved Grade eight and playing the trumpet in orchestras and bands. It has really enhanced my life and played a big role in the person I am now.
My interest for this particular field of study originates from studying Business Studies at GCSE in school. It created a desire and a goal for me to one day work in business. Ever since then, my desire has grown stronger and many influencial entrepreuners such as Stelios have created excellent role models to look up to. I wanted to study at LSE because of its worldwide reputation in the social sciences field. This particular world of study intrigues me as it has such a vital impact on everyday life. My reasons for choosing Actuarial Science are mainly to do with my aspiration to work in the business world. The idea of being able to predict the future has always astounded me and I am keen to learn more and build on my mathematical skills.
My aspirations are to work in the city of London. I have this dream of really wanting to work in the city, walking down the financial district, in a suit and a big tailcoat with a newspaper under my arm. If that was to come through it would just be great. I would like to work for one of the big Actuarial firms in the city and be part of a big organisation. I would love to travel the world with my career and hopefully make a difference in the world of work but in many other respects too. I would aspire not only to have a successful career in business but a successful career as a family man.
I feel that my particular talents in organisation skills and caring for others would mean that I could play a part in the bigger picture. At my time at LSE, I hope to join a volunteering organisation so I can give something back to the world as I feel I’m so lucky to be at this university. This scholarship has opened my eyes. It has taught me that I am so lucky to receive such an award and other people aren’t so lucky. I have to try and help them. Without this very generous contribution to me, I would have found it immensely difficult to complete my studies in LSE due to the high financial costs of living in London. It will also give me a lot more time to dedicate to my studies as I don’t have to go looking for a part-time job and as I was saying, I could do some volunteering work. As you may appreciate, this award has also taken a lot of financial pressure of my mum and thus enabling her to continue providing luxuries like music lessons for my younger brother and sister. It will also mean that I would be able to make a few trips home this year to see my family in Northern Ireland.
The one question I would really like to ask Stelios is what is the key to setting up a successful business and working in the business world?
The one question I would really like Stelios to ask me is what contribution do you feel you could make to the world?
