Year 3 LSE BSc EconomicsMy name is Nooreen and I am currently in my 3rd Year at LSE doing BSc in Economics. I grew up in London and attended a state school before I came to the LSE. Being on campus is like being in a completely different London to the one I’ve seen growing up, and one that most students at LSE won’t ever see. I was surprised at how few other state school British kids are in top universities such as LSE. And although I found this a difficult transition to make at first, I have learnt to value my time at such at incredible university and make the most of the opportunities it presents, so I can inspire others, like Stelios has inspired me. I won’t lie – I initially wanted to go to LSE because I wanted to be a banker and make some big bucks. I’ve since changed my mind, but don’t regret my decision to study Economics here at all. Coming to LSE has matured me as a person and I’ve learnt an incredible amount in such a short space of time I want to develop into a successful entrepreneur. I am the kind of person who works well under direction when I am learning something new, but then wants to expand on what I have learnt in my own way. Stelios told us once that you don’t reach your creative peak until you are around 27/28, so while in the near future I hope to build on my business skills with a career in strategy consulting. If I could ask Stelios anything, I would ask to shadow him for a week, as I believe the habits of a good entrepreneur are the secrets to their success. I am a founding member of the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) society at LSE. The aim of SIFE is to create economic opportunities for others. Our first project was a stock market trading game project with kids from east London and this academic year we are implementing a consultancy project with small businesses, doing work with Young Offenders and hopefully making an impact internationally with an enterprise project in Kenya. Throughout all my llife endeavours, if I can inspire even one person and seriously change the course of their life because of the work I’ve done, I’ll be satisfied. 'The imagination is how things get done. You have to cultivate creativity.' Russell Simmons |
